3393歸妹之乾[荊木冬生, 司寇緩刑]釋歸妹象[澤上有雷, 歸妺. 君子以永終敝." 翟云"古以荊木為刑仗, 冬生則緩矣. 威權在下, [威權在下]釋未濟初六"濡其尾, 吝." [國亂且傾]䆁乾上九"亢龍有悔."

3393 归妹之乾[荆木在冬天生长,司寇(掌管刑狱的官员)延缓执行刑罚],用来解释《归妹》卦的象辞 “泽上有雷,象征着归妹。君子应长久保持善终并知道弊端”。翟氏说 “古代用荆木作为刑杖,荆木在冬天生长,就意味着刑罚延缓了”。[威权落在下面(的人手中)],用来解释《未济》卦初六爻 “浸湿了尾巴,有困难”。[国家混乱并且将要倾覆],参照《乾》卦上九爻 “高亢的龙(居高位而不知退)会有悔恨”。

Translation:For "Guimei turning into Qian" of 3393:["The thorny wood grows in winter, and the Sikou (the official in charge of prisons) delays the execution of punishment"] is used to explain the image words of the hexagram of Guimei that "There is thunder above the marsh, symbolizing Guimei. Gentlemen should maintain a good end for a long time and know the disadvantages." Mr. Zhai said: "In ancient times, the thorny wood was used as a punishment rod. The growth of the thorny wood in winter means the delay of punishment." ["The authority falls into the hands of those below"] is used to explain the first yin line of the hexagram of Weiji that "Soaking the tail, there are difficulties." ["The country is in chaos and on the verge of collapse"] refers to the top yang line of the hexagram of Qian that "The lofty dragon (being in a high position without knowing to retreat) will have regret."

 

3394歸妹之坤[喘牛傷暑, 不能耕畝]釋歸妹象"澤上有雷, 歸妹. 君子以永終知敝.” 丁云"漢書吉傳:吉逢人逐牛, 牛喘吐舌. 吉曰:方春少陽用事, a 恐牛近行用暑, 此時氣失節也."[草萊不辟]釋乾上九"亢龍有悔." [年歲無有]釋坤初六"履霜, 堅冰至."

3394 归妹之坤[牛因中暑而喘息,不能耕种田地],用来解释《归妹》卦的象辞 “泽上有雷,象征着归妹。君子应长久保持善终并知道弊端”。丁氏说 “《汉书・丙吉传》记载:丙吉遇到有人赶牛,牛喘息吐舌。丙吉说:正当春天,少阳之气主事,恐怕牛走得近是因为中暑了,这是时令节气失调了”。[杂草没有被开辟(清除)],用来解释《乾》卦上九爻 “高亢的龙(居高位而不知退)会有悔恨”。[年成不好(没有收成)],用来解释《坤》卦初六爻 “脚踏上霜,坚冰就要到来”(此处取其引申义,暗示不好的开端导致不好的结果,如年成不好)。

Translation:For "Guimei turning into Kun" of 3394:["The ox is panting due to heatstroke and cannot plow the fields"] is used to explain the image words of the hexagram of Guimei that "There is thunder above the marsh, symbolizing Guimei. Gentlemen should maintain a good end for a long time and know the disadvantages." Mr. Ding said: "Recorded in 'Han Shu·Bing Ji Zhuan': Bing Ji met someone driving an ox, and the ox was panting and sticking out its tongue. Bing Ji said: It is just spring, and the qi of Shaoyang is in charge. I'm afraid the ox is near because of heatstroke. This is the disorder of the seasonal climate." ["The weeds have not been cleared"] is used to explain the top yang line of the hexagram of Qian that "The lofty dragon (being in a high position without knowing to retreat) will have regret." ["The harvest is not good (no harvest)"] is used to explain the first yin line of the hexagram of Kun that "Stepping on the frost, the solid ice is coming" (Here, the extended meaning is taken, implying that a bad beginning leads to a bad result, such as a bad harvest).

 

3395歸妹之屯 [魚欲負流]釋序卦"進必有所歸, 故受之以歸妹." [眾不同心] 釋坤六四象"括囊无咎, 慎不害也." [至德潛伏]釋屯六三"君子幾, 不如舍, 往吝."

3395 归妹之屯[鱼想要逆着水流游动],用来解释《序卦》中 “前进必定有所归宿,所以接着是归妹卦”。[众人不一条心],用来解释《坤》卦六四爻的象辞 “扎紧口袋没有过错,谨慎就不会有危害”。[最高尚的品德潜藏着],用来解释《屯》卦六三爻 “君子(面对这种情况)要见机行事,不如舍弃(当前的行动),前往会有困难”。

Translation:For "Guimei turning into Tun" of 3395:["The fish wants to swim against the current"] is used to explain what is said in the "Xugua" that "Progressing must have a destination, so it is followed by the hexagram of Guimei." ["The people are not of one mind"] is used to explain the image words of the fourth yin line of the hexagram of Kun that "Tying up the pocket, there is no fault. Being cautious will cause no harm." ["The most noble virtue is hidden"] is used to explain the third yin line of the hexagram of Tun that "The gentleman (facing this situation) should act according to the opportunity, it is better to give up (the current action), and going forward will bring difficulties."

 

3396歸妺之蒙[春耕有息, 秋人利福]釋歸妹九二象"利幽人之貞, 未變常也." [獻豜私豵]釋屯六四象"求而往, 明也." [以樂成功]釋九二"包蒙, 吉. 納婦吉, 子克家." [集注]2230晉之歸妹.

3396 归妹之蒙[春天耕种后有休息,秋天人们获得福气],用来解释《归妹》卦九二爻的象辞 “有利于幽居之人坚守正道,没有改变常规”。[献上大野猪和小野猪],用来解释《屯》卦六四爻的象辞 “有所求而前往,是明智的”。[因为快乐而获得成功],用来解释《蒙》卦九二爻 “包容蒙昧的人,吉祥。娶妇吉祥,儿子能够成家立业”。[集注]:参考 2230 条《晋》变为《归妹》的注解。

Translation:For "Guimei turning into Meng" of 3396:["Having a rest after spring plowing, and people obtaining blessings in autumn"] is used to explain the image words of the second yin line of the hexagram of Guimei that "It is beneficial for the secluded person to adhere to the right path, and there is no change in the routine." ["Offering the big wild boar and the small wild boar"] is used to explain the image words of the fourth yin line of the hexagram of Tun that "Going forward with a request is wise." ["Achieving success because of happiness"] is used to explain the second yang line of the hexagram of Meng that "Tolerating the ignorant people, it is auspicious. Marrying a wife is auspicious, and the son can establish a family and a career." 3397歸妺之需[生有聖德, 上配太極]釋歸妹六五象"其位在中, 以貴行也." [皇靈建中]釋蒙象”山下出泉, 蒙. 君子以果行育德." [授我以福]釋需九五"需于酒食, 貞吉." 四部注"詩曰:克配彼天, 莫匪爾極. 言后稷之德真可配天, 使我蒸民得以粒食者, 莫非其德之至也. 書曰:建中于民. 又曰:歛時五福, 用敷鍚厥庶民. 言建中者, 立中道於天下也. 中者, 天下之所同有, 然非君建之則民不能以自中, 而禮義者, 所以建中者也."[集注]2309家人之需, 3657兌之小畜.

3397 归妹之需[生来就有圣人的品德,向上能与太极相匹配],用来解释《归妹》卦六五爻的象辞 “它的位置处于中间,是凭借尊贵的身份行事”。[皇天的神灵建立中正之道],用来解释《蒙》卦的象辞 “山下流出泉水,象征着蒙。君子应果断行动培育品德”。[授予我福气],用来解释《需》卦九五爻 “在酒食中等待,坚守正道吉祥”。四部注 “《诗经》说:能够匹配那上天,没有不是因为你的至极之德。说的是后稷的品德真的可以匹配上天,使我们众民能够有粮食吃,没有不是因为他的品德达到了极致。《尚书》说:在民众中建立中正之道。又说:聚集五种福气,用来广泛地赐予那些众民。说建立中正之道,就是在天下确立中道。中道,是天下人共同拥有的,然而如果不是君主建立它,那么民众就不能自己遵循中道,而礼义,就是用来建立中道的”。[集注]:参考 2309 条《家人》变为《需》、3657 条《兑》变为《小畜》的注解。

Translation:For "Guimei turning into Xu" of 3397:["Being born with the virtue of a sage and being able to match the Taiji upward"] is used to explain the image words of the fifth yin line of the hexagram of Guimei that "Its position is in the middle, and it acts relying on the noble status." ["The divine spirit of the imperial heaven establishes the right path of the mean"] is used to explain the image words of the hexagram of Meng that "Spring water flows out from below the mountain, symbolizing Meng. Gentlemen should act resolutely to cultivate their virtues." ["Granting me blessings"] is used to explain the fifth yang line of the hexagram of Xu that "Waiting during the wine and food time, being upright and steadfast brings good fortune." The annotation in the Four Books: "Said in 'The Book of Songs': Being able to match the heaven, there is no other reason than your extreme virtue. It means that the virtue of Houji can really match the heaven, enabling all of us common people to have food to eat, and there is no other reason than his virtue reaching the extreme. Said in 'Shang Shu': Establishing the right path of the mean among the people. It also said: Gathering the five kinds of blessings and widely bestowing them on those common people. Saying to establish the right path of the mean means establishing the middle way in the world. The middle way is commonly owned by the people in the world. However, if the monarch does not establish it, then the people cannot follow the middle way by themselves, and propriety and righteousness are what are used to establish the middle way." 3398 归妹之讼[右手抚摸琴头,左手拉着衣带],用来解释《归妹》卦 “泽上有雷,象征着归妹。君子应长久保持善终并知道弊端”。[凶险的诉讼不断,相互争斗违背情理],用来解释《需》卦六四爻 “在血泊中等待,从洞穴中出来”。[失去利益后归来],用来解释《讼》卦的象辞 “天与水相背而行,象征着讼。君子应做事谋划于开始之时”。[集注]:参考《泰》变为《遁》的注解。

Translation:For "Guimei turning into Song" of 3398:["Touching the head of the qin with the right hand and pulling the 衣带 with the left hand"] is used to explain the hexagram of Guimei that "There is thunder above the marsh, symbolizing Guimei. Gentlemen should maintain a good end for a long time and know the disadvantages." ["The dangerous lawsuit continues, and they fight against each other and go against reason"] is used to explain the fourth yin line of the hexagram of Xu that "Waiting in a pool of blood, coming out from the cave." ["Returning after losing the benefit"] is used to explain the image words of the hexagram of Song that "Heaven and water move in opposite directions, symbolizing Song. 3399歸妹之師[炙魚棝斗, 張伺夜鼠]釋序卦"進必有所歸, 故受之以歸妹." [舌不忍味, 機發為祟]釋訟象"天與水違行, 訟. 君子以作事謀始." [笮不得去] 釋師六三”師或輿尸, 凶.”[集注]3037井之坎.

3399 归妹之师[烤着鱼,设置捕鼠器,张开着等待夜里的老鼠],用来解释《序卦》中 “前进必定有所归宿,所以接着是归妹卦”。[(因为鱼香)舌头忍不住美味,机关发动成为灾祸(指老鼠触动机关)],用来解释《讼》卦的象辞 “天与水相背而行,象征着讼。君子应做事谋划于开始之时”。[(老鼠)被挤压不能逃脱],用来解释《师》卦六三爻 “军队有时载着尸体归来,有凶险”。[集注]:参考 3037 条《井》变为《坎》的注解。

["The tongue cannot resist the delicious taste (because of the fragrance of the fish), and the mechanism is activated and becomes a disaster (referring to the mouse triggering the mechanism)"] is used to explain the image words of the hexagram of Song that "Heaven and water move in opposite directions, symbolizing Song. Gentlemen should plan at the beginning when doing things." The man slaughters the sheep, but there is no blood. There is nothing beneficial." ["The eyes are open and the ears are ringing (describing an uneasy state)"] is used to explain the fourth yin line of the hexagram of Xiaoxu that "Having sincere trust, the disaster of blood light leaves, the fear is eliminated, and there is no fault." 3403歸妺之泰[外得好畜, 相與嫁娶]䆁歸妹象"澤上有雷, 歸妹. 君子以永終知敝." 指和親而言. 翟云”此言君臣相得也. 好畜, 當作畜好. 孟子梁惠王:畜君者好君也. 呂覽適威民善之則畜也. 注:好也. 嫁娶, 亦喻和好之意.”[仁賢集聚, 諮詢厥事]釋履象”上天下澤, 履. 君子以辯上下, 定民志.” [傾奪我城, 使家不寧]釋泰上六"城復于隍, 其命亂矣."

3403 归妹之泰[在外面得到好的(和睦的)关系,相互之间进行嫁娶(联姻等)],参照《归妹》卦的象辞 “泽上有雷,象征着归妹。君子应长久保持善终并知道弊端”。这里指的是和亲而言。翟氏说 “这说的是君臣相互投合。好畜,应当写作畜好。《孟子・梁惠王》中说:畜君就是喜爱君主。《吕氏春秋・适威》中说:百姓善待君主就是畜(喜爱)。注:就是好(喜爱)的意思。嫁娶,也比喻和好的意思”。[仁爱贤能的人聚集在一起,咨询商议那些事情],用来解释《履》卦的象辞 “上天下泽,象征着履。君子应分辨上下,安定百姓的志向”。[(敌人)倾轧夺取我的城池,使家庭不得安宁],用来解释《泰》卦上六爻 “城墙又倒塌到护城壕中,它的天命混乱了” 。

Translation:For "Guimei turning into Tai" of 3403:["Getting a good (harmonious) relationship outside, and having marriages (intermarriages, etc.) with each other"] refers to the image words of the hexagram of Guimei that "There is thunder above the marsh, symbolizing Guimei. Gentlemen should maintain a good end for a long time and know the disadvantages." Here, it refers to the marriage alliance. Mr. Zhai said: "This refers to the harmony between the monarch and the ministers. 'Hao Xu' should be written as 'Xu Hao'. In 'Mencius·Liang Hui Wang', it is said that 'Xujun' means loving the monarch. In 'Lüshi Chunqiu·Shiwei', it is said that the common people treating the monarch well is 'Xu' (loving). Annotation: It means 'Hao' (loving). 'Marriage' also implies the meaning of harmony." ["The benevolent and virtuous people gather together and consult and discuss those matters"] is used to explain the image words of the hexagram of Lü that "Heaven above and marsh below, symbolizing Lü. Gentlemen should distinguish between the upper and the lower and stabilize the aspirations of the common people." ["(The enemy) oppresses and seizes my city, making the family uneasy"] is used to explain the top yin line of the hexagram of Tai that "The city wall collapses back into the moat, and its mandate of heaven is in chaos."

 

3404歸妹之否[煎砂盛暑, 鮮有不朽]釋歸妹象”澤上有雷, 歸妹. 君子以永終知敝.”[去河千里, 敗我利市]釋泰九四”翩翩, 不富以其鄰, 不戒以孚.” 丁云"煎砂煮鹽當盛暑之時, 若去河稍遠, 則不為利市矣."[老牛盲馬, 去之何悔]釋否上九"傾否, 先否後喜." [集注]2181晉之需.

3404 归妹之否[在盛夏时节煎熬砂石(煮盐等),很少有不腐坏的],用来解释《归妹》卦的象辞 “泽上有雷,象征着归妹。君子应长久保持善终并知道弊端”。[距离河流千里之远,破坏了我的盈利生意],用来解释《泰》卦九四爻 “往来翩翩,不富有是因为他的邻居,不用警戒就心怀诚信”。丁氏说 “在盛夏时节煎砂煮盐,如果距离河流稍微远一点,那么就不是盈利的生意了”。[年老的牛和瞎眼的马,离开它们又有什么可后悔的呢],用来解释《否》卦上九爻 “倾覆否塞的局面,先否塞而后喜悦”。[集注]:参考 2181 条《晋》变为《需》的注解。

Mr. Ding said: "Boiling sand to make salt in the midsummer, if it is a little far from the river, then it is not a profitable business." If heaven and earth do not interact, then all things will not thrive." ["Not losing the regular rhythm, the plants' buds are bent when sprouting"] is used to explain the fourth yang line of the hexagram of Pi that "There is the mandate of heaven, there is no fault, who can obtain the blessing?" ["All can grow smoothly and each enjoys the company of its own kind"] is used to explain the image words of the hexagram of Tongren that "Heaven and fire, symbolizing Tongren. Gentlemen should distinguish the categories of things."
